With smart marketing campaigns any film can be enticing no matter what the final product is. We’ve seen recent small-budget, high-concept sci-fi films completely fail (Skyline) and others succeed (Monsters). The next in line is Chronicle, which has certainly delivered a compelling trailer.

The style feels like Cloverfield and the sci-fi elements already look much better than Skyline. But can they nail the emotion/plot found in Monsters? Written by Max Landis (son of John) and directed by Josh Trank the cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Alex Russell and Dane DeHaan. Check it out below via MTV.

Synopsis:

Three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to they’re developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities, and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over.

Chronicle hits theaters February 3rd, 2012.
