With his last few efforts such as Flipped and the Morgan Freeman-led drama The Magic of Belle Isle going widely unnoticed, Rob Reiner is looking for another project, and one that will hopefully put him back on the map. According to Showbiz 411, the Stand By Me director looks like he may have found it.

First announced last fallMichael Douglas and Diane Keaton were set to team up for a new film from My Best Friend’s Wedding helmer P.J. Hogan, but now a directorial shift has been made. Previously acting as a producer, Reiner has reportedly stepped in to the director’s chair for And So It Goes, with a script coming from screenwriter Mark Andrus (As Good As It Gets).

Douglas, who would be reteaming with Reiner after their hit The American President, would play a “self-centered and eccentric realtor” whose life gets a major shift when his distant son brings a granddaughter home. Keaton pops in as a bubbly neighbor who helps him through the process and perhaps some romance sparks. Producer Alan Greisman even initially compared the demographic for this project to the same for Reiner’s hit  The Bucket List, so it certainly seems like a good match — let’s just hope it will get more attention than his last few films.

Are you looking forward to Reiner’s next film?
