Coming off one of the flat-out best features of the year, 12 Years a Slave, and what’s quickly becoming one of the most underappreciated, The Counselor, Michael Fassbender is eying his next potential role. Screen Daily lets us know that the actor is going gangster for the U.K. production Trespass Against Us. Coming from commercial and music video helmer Adam Smith, Alastair Siddons’ script follows an outlaw named Chad Cutler (Fassbender) who is looking to escape his life of crime. With an original score from The Chemical Brothers, who previously did the same for Hanna, production begins next year in the U.K.
In other casting news, Source Code writer Ben Ripley has found a cast and director for his next feature and one far removed from the sci-fi genre. According to The Wrap, Dustin Hoffman, Alfred Molina and Kathy Bates are set to star in the drama Boychoir, which comes from director Francois Girard (Silk). Casting is currently underway for the 11-year-old lead character, Stet, a troubled boy who lands at a choir school for boys and finds a mentor with Hoffman’s character. Production kicks off in February with Molina playing a teacher and Bates as a headmistress.
In just a short time Alexander Payne‘s Nebraska will hit theaters and the writer of the black-and-white drama, Bob Nelson, has already lined up his next feature. LA Times tells us that things are coming together for The Tribe, a project which follows a new coach who heads up a Native American high school girls softball team. Nelson is reportedly coming on as a director, while Joel McHale (Community) is lined up for the lead role as the coach. No word yet on when it could go into production, but if Payne’s next is a hit, we believe it’ll be sooner than later.
In a minor bit of casting news, Deadline reports that Richard Gere is looking to come aboard the sequel no one expected would happen, The Best Marigold Hotel 2. With director John Madden and Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilton and Maggie Smith returning, Helen Mirren and Colin Firth are also rumored to join and production kicks off early next year.
Which of the above projects are you most looking forward to?
