Following the surprise hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I can’t be the only one that wouldn’t minding seeing a sequel that solely featured our advanced CGI animals, but considering how tough that may be to market, 20th Century Fox is bringing back some humans and we’ve got another addition today.
Following the addition of Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke as the film’s main character, Deadline reports that director Matt Reeves is reteaming with his star of Let Me In, Kodi Smit-McPhee, for the blockbuster. Also a lead role, there’s no details on what exact his character will entail, but we do know Dawn will take place fifteen years after the wake of Rise, throwing audiences into (an otherwise deserted) San Francisco inhabited by scientists. We’ll once again follow Andy Serkis‘ Caesar, who’s now trying to keep his fellow beings under control.
Smit-McPhee is another strong addition, coming off his lead voice role in the Oscar-nominated ParaNorman and he’ll be seen in one of our most-anticipated films of this year, Ari Folman’s Waltz with Bashir follow-up The Congress. Mark Bomback is now credited as the film’s screenwriter, and with a spring production start, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will open on May 23rd, 2014.
