Finally, a sequel we can get excited for! If for no other reason, we’ll see things we weren’t expecting: weird camera angles, loud music, a lot of digital pixelation and, above all, Jason Statham in perhaps his most famous (or infamous?) role.

During a press event for the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of VengeanceMark Nevedine spoke on the second sequel in the potential low-budget action trilogy [Empire via JoBlo]:

“I would LOVE that! Actually, we joking-but-not-quite-jokingly joked about that with Idris [Elba] while we were over in Romania and Turkey [shooting Spirit of Vengeance]. Just trying to figure out a way of getting him into Crank 3. There are so many different ways that Crank 3 could go. We’ve been talking about the top 50 ideas we what to do for Crank 3, so we’re just trying to pair them down. By the way, Crank 3 is going to happen, the studios are really excited about it – it’s just all about timing.”

The addition of Elba in any project adds to its artistic stock, even films that involve flaming skulls and men powered by over-sized libidos and pure electrical power.

As for the high-concept premise of the third film?

“…The important thing is what powers Chev [Chelios]. It was adrenaline that kept him alive in the first one, it was electricity in the second one, you know, it’s all about what will keep him alive in the third one. It’s just fun slinging those ideas around.”

Based on the content in the first two Crank films, and really any Neveldine/Taylor film, slinging ideas around – not to mention bodies, drugs, sex and the like – is what they rely on.

If the third go-around includes Statham and Elba, I’m on board.

What do you think of the Crank series? Worth a third film?
