It was only a matter of time before the duo of Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett were welcomed with open arms into major Hollywood studios. Working on such films as A Horrible Way To Die, V/H/S and You’re Next — the latter which finally nabbed a release date this week — they’ve been key players in the independent world, but Deadline reports they’ve been hired to work on a major Warner Bros. project.
The studio has set them on an adaptation of the Jon Stock novel Dead Spy Running, which has now been fast-tracked. Last we heard the McG-produced project was looking at Jonathan Levine (50/50, The Wackness) to direct, but now Wingard has taken his spot, with Barrett rewriting from an original draft from Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana) and Jamie Moss, which is not a bad place to start off from. Check out a synopsis below of the film, as we wait to hear more news on the project.
Danny Marchant is a young DJ on the rise in the international world of electronic dance music. Danny is forced to go on the run with a beautiful secret agent assigned to watch him after he is framed for his MI6 agent father’s murder. As Danny tries to clear his name and avenge his father’s death, he gets deeper into the world of espionage while never forgetting his background and skills as a DJ. Danny must ultimately rise up and defeat a terrorist intent on destroying western civilization in an adventure that takes him through the world to London, Paris, Corsica, New York, and Mumbai.
Are you looking forward to seeing this duo take on a Hollywood project?
