If you’ve seen the Norwegian found footage adventure film Trollhunter, then you know it’s only a matter of time before director Andre Ovredal makes his major Hollywood breakout. While Chris Columbus cooks up a remake of the original, Ovredal was circling a demon slayer project Carpe Demon, but now another one has been added to the pile.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on a project titled Enormous, which is based on a graphic novel and would pit Ovredal with Hitman producer Adrian Askarieh for the feature adaptation. Created by Tim Daniel, the film would see Ovredal back in familiar territory of monster mayhem, as the novel looks at what happens when “humanity is plunged down the food chain when an ecological event creates gargantuan beasts that decimate civilization.”
The film would also serve up a major female leading role as our protagonist’s story sees the search for lost children in the wreckage. Not just relegated to the feature film world, the filmmakers also want to venture into a transmedia sphere, with a web series, TV show that will “explore how humans react and cope with survival from multiple points of views and from multiple settings around the planet.”
While its an epic undertaking, I’ve been waiting to see what Ovredal’s next move in and this could serve as an excellent platform to show his talents. As for the producer, Askarieh is a go-to for all things geek, with feature films of Jonny Quest, Spy Hunter, Just Cause, Deus Ex, Hack/Slash, Kane & Lynch and more all bouncing around. Check back for more updates as they come in.
