Spike Lee‘s next project is going to be Nagasaki Deadline, a thriller set to shoot next year. The film will be Lee’s first directing effort since the disappointing Miracle At St. Anna. In this 24-esque plot, an FBI agent will be in a race against time to stop two potential terrorist attacks that will take place on U.S. soil. [Deadline]The film was originally written by David and Peter Griffiths, and was over at Fox until it got dropped due to the subject matter, just another Tom Rothman creative casualty. It got dropped due to the subject matter. Alcon Entertainment brought the project back to life and hired writer William Broyles Jr. (Cast Away) for another draft. Martin Campbell was once in the director’s chair but left for The Green Lantern.

Lee is no doubt a talented director who showed us he can cover the thriller genre well with his film Inside Man. He is also known for some more controversial films such as Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X. The subject matter in Nagasaki Deadline is going to be tricky to deal with, especially in our post 9/11 world. It’ll be interesting to see how Lee handles it.

What do you think? Should Lee direct this film?
