Coming off yet another Johnny Depp disappointment with Dark Shadows, Tim Burton is thankfully changing things up for his next feature. While Frankenweenie still has the dark, stark, gothic tone found in the rest of his oeuvre, but there’s a strong sense of originality as the director expands his 1984 short into the feature film length. While the first trailer gave us a look of this story of a boy and his (revived) dog, we’ve got a second peek now that expands on the plot. Not only does his dog see new life, but many other terrifying creatures, large and small get similar treatment. It’s been awhile since I’ve said this, but I’m actually looking forward to the next Tim Burton feature. Check out the trailer below via Apple for the film featuring a voice cast of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron and Conchata Ferrell.

Synopsis:

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life–with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

Frankenweenie hits theaters on October 5th, 2012.
