The comedy powerhouse behind Eagle Vs. Shark and Boy, Taika Waititi, is joining forces with Flight of the Conchords writer and star Jemaine Clement for what seems to be a very intriguing period piece. The Playlist informs us that the duo are currently formulating plans for a film that is to be set during World War II.
After portraying Tom Kalmaku in Green Lantern this summer and directing the New Zealand hit Boy, Waititi isn’t wasting much time getting his next two projects up and running. Although Waititi has been rather silent on details of his World War II film, he did confirm that it would be comedy, to put it simply, “about a kid,” saying, “I swore I would take a break doing films about kids, but this is an amazing story. It’s a lot funnier [than ‘Boy’] but [its] definitely more heartfelt.”
As the writer, director and actor continues to seek finances for the project, he has also found it rather difficult getting a hold of his Men in Black 3D co-writer. Although their schedules may be polar opposites, Waititi and Clement have been working on a separate project for upwards of six years — a vampire film.
But since it’s taken so long to move forward, Waititi comments on how “uncool” vampires are nowadays, but hopes that it will end up getting made in the future. When he’s not waiting around for Clement, Waititi is currently lending his comedic talents to the American version of the popular British comedy The Inbetweeners for MTV.
