James Wan loves horror, horror loves him, and, in addition to helming successful projects (Saw, Insidious, and its upcoming sequel, Insidious Chapter 2) he’s also branched out into the world of producing, lending his name and ideas to other filmmakers / writers to do with what they wish. One of these projects has found its two leads, with Variety reporting that Maria Bello and Frank Grillo have signed to star in a currently-untitled ghost movie for Dimension Films.
The movie will follow the aftermath of a failed ghost-hunting excursion that left five people dead, as a policeman and a psychologist interrogate the lone survivor to find out what happened. Max La Bella (post-production supervisor for Adult Swim shows Children’s Hospital and NTSF:SD:SVU) wrote the script, based on an idea from Wan, and Will Canon (2010’s frathouse thriller Brotherhood) will sit in the director’s chair. Lee Clay is joining Wan on producing duties. No word on a production start as of yet.
Although some may differ on his directorial work, you’ve got to at least admire the concepts that James Wan comes up with. This sounds like it could be an interesting movie, mixing the psychological with the horror well (also probably a ton of jump scares because ghosts). Here’s hoping what I assume will be a low-budget horror movie is more Insidious and way way way less The Devil Inside.
Any early thoughts on the movie, especially in regard to the casting of Bello and Grillo?
