If you can’t have one Mara, the other will do. While her younger sister, Rooney Mara, was circling the lead female role in Wally Pfister‘s directorial debut Transcendence, Variety is reporting that Kate Mara has scored a different part in the project. The Dragon Tattoo star’s role ended up going to Rebecca Hall, and there’s no details yet regarding the character the Shooter actress will play.
Mara will be joined by Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in the film scripted by Jack Paglen, which follows a scientist named Will (Depp) who is murdered by anti-technology terrorists. His wife (Hall) then uploads his brain into a computer and soon enough Will is reborn in the machine and finds the ability to communicate through it, allowing him to continue conducting his research.
Having recently been in the spotlight for House of Cards, Mara has taken her feature film output down a notch in recent years, mostly staying in the independent realm with films such as Deadfall, 10 Years and 127 Hours. This sci-fi blockbuster will be her biggest project since a small role in Iron Man 2, and with shooting commencing soon, expect more details momentarily for the film landing in theaters in less than 13 months.
