With Quentin Tarantino finally confirming The Hateful Eight will be his next feature, the pieces are starting to fall into place. Shooting is set to begin early next year for the (mostly) one-location western and it looks like The Weinstein Company will be following the same pattern of release as his last, and most financially successful, feature.
Thanks to Empire we have the first official poster for the film (not counting the one for the LACMA reading), included in their latest issue. The one-sheet confirms that a 2015 release is in store (we’d wager December is a safe bet) and that plans to shoot in 70mm Super Cinemascope are still happening. The poster also indicates a “Special Roadshow Engagement,” so perhaps, unlike Django, this one will tour the country first.
As for the potential cast, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Tom Roth, James Remar, Amber Tamblyn, Walton Goggins, and Zoe Bell have all been rumored (with only Russell being confirmed), so check back for official word. In the meantime, see the poster below for what might not be the only Tarantino release next year, as he recently revealed plans are underway for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair to receive a limited theatrical release soon.
The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, trapping a pitiless and mistrustful group, which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.
What do you think of the poster?
