After a hefty string of disappointments, Peter and Bobby Farrelly are returning to what they know best, or rather the characters that made them famous. Deadline is reporting the duo is intending to helm a sequel of their directorial debut hit that grossed almost $250 million worldwide, Dumb and Dumber.
While its disaster prequel Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd ruined some of the franchise’s reputation, this sequel will hopefully see Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels return as the now-famous comedy characters. Sex Drive and Hot Tub Time Machine writers Sean Anders and John Morris have been brought on for scripting duties. They also recently worked with Carrey on Mr. Popper’s Penguins and will release their directing effort I Hate You, Dad starring Adam Sandler next summer.
Like many, Dumb and Dumber is one of my favorite comedies and I think the Sex Drive duo is fitting for the material. They managed to create a raunchy sex comedy that also knew how to smartly craft characters. The Farrellys are in post-production on their passion project The Three Stooges, which sees a release on April 4, 2012. After their work is done, the hope is to jump into this project.
What do you think about another Dumb and Dumber with the original crew?
