We sadly aren’t geting new episodes of Community at the moment, but at least its stars are finding ways to occupy the time. In addition to making out with Keira Knightley (in Seeking a Friend For the End of the World trailer), Community star Gillian Jacobs is expanding her feature films roles.
It has been shooting for a bit (as evidence with a batch of set photos), but she has just joined for a bit part in the magician comedy Burt Wonderstone, possibly retitled The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, if IMDb is to be believed.
With a cast already including Jim Carrey, Brad Garrett, James Gandolfini, Olivia Wilde and Steve Buscemi, Jacobs will play a fan of Steve Carell’s title character. In the Don Scardino comedy she meets him and embarks on a one-night stand while the main plot follows “a more traditional magic man (Carell) who is dethroned by a hipper illusionist (Carrey) doing dangerous tricks and breaks up with his partner then must find a way to rediscover his love for magic.” [THR]
It’s a promising project coming from the talented Horrible Bosses duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, one I’m confident I’ll enjoy even if it likely takes the PG-13 route. Jacobs has yet to prove herself on the big screen, but she seems to be making an easy transition from her Britta character to these brief supporting roles. I’d be interested to see if she’ll take something of more substance down the road, but these are smart stepping stones for now.
Expect Wonderstone to arrive in 2013.
What do you think about Jacobs’ rise to fame?
