While this fall will see the release of Eli Roth‘s first directorial effort in seven years, The Green Inferno (review), the horror aficionado has been quite busy producing his own projects. After The Last Exorcism and Afterschock, we now have the first trailer for his latest, The Sacrament. Directed by Ti West (The Innkeepers, The House of the Devil), the film tracks two journalists who set out to document their friend’s search to find his missing sister.
In our review out of its Toronto International Film Festival premiere, we said, “with his newest, The Sacrament — a film inspired by the infamous Jonestown Massacre and its “drink the Kool-Aid” mass-suicide by a cult — its disturbing, grand climax is an utter inevitability. The film thankfully doesn’t completely race to this, but at least gradually reaches the point of true terror, even if one wishes it would delay the process to even greater lengths.”
Starring Joe Swanberg, AJ Bowen, Kentucker Audley, Amy Seimetz, and Gene Jones, check out the red band trailer and poster below thanks to IGN.
The Sacrament hits VOD on May 1st and theaters on June 6th.
