We just posted a neat Super 8 tidbit this morning, but there is more news coming from J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot camp. Deadline reports that Fringe writers Monica Breen and Alison Schapker, aside from continuing that series and developing new one, have been hired by Paramount to rewrite one of Abrams’ many top-secret projects.

The film in particular is currently titled Zanbato and “involves Japanese history and robotics.” One insider describes it as “swashbuckling robots with swords,” which makes sense considering the actual definition of the title is a Japanese sword. The article also mentions Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Water for Elephants) was previously attached to direct, but that isn’t happening.

This is just one of the original projects that the duo will work on with J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot. It would certainly be exciting to see Breen and Schapker become the next Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman. That powerhouse duo has written such blockbusters as Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek (and the upcoming sequel), as well as Transformers 1-3, and Cowboys & Aliens, hitting this summer. It will be nice to see them have some competition.

What do you think of this secret project? Are you a Fringe fan?
