Could those unfavorable remarks about Michel Gondry‘s The Green Hornet being “a disaster” be true? Although they were reportedly untrue, Sony Pictures has yanked the picture out of a prime December 22nd release and pushed it to January 14th, 2011. Their reason is for post-converting it to 3D. If a terrible post-conversion for Clash of the Titans only takes 2 months, we can only hope they can do a much better job in 9 months.

There is another glimmer of hope though, as no visual effects have been done yet for the film. Deadline reports they are calling the addition “3D enhancements” to add another element to the great depth and scope that Michel Gondry has produced. Sony Pictures Entertainment Vice-Chair and marketing/distribution head Jeff Blake also denies the rumored problems with the film.

He says, if anything, Sony isn’t backing away from the film but, rather, “doubling down. We’re investing more in the film to have it 3D. We’ve seen part of the movie. We love it. We believe in it. Whoever is spreading these rumors has not seen it. We’re going to finish Green Hornet in 3D and take 9 months to do it right.”

The reason for the push is because Paul Blart brought in great box office for Sony in 2008. Blake also says “Sony wanted to steer clear from all the 3D films coming in the Christmas season, including Tron, Yogi Bear, Harry Potter, and Fox, which may make 3D conversions of its Gullivers Travels and its Narnia 3.”

The Green Hornet will open on January, 14th 2011 next to The Cabin In The Woods, which also got delayed a year for post-conversion.

What do you think about the delay? Are you still hopeful for Gondry’s latest?
