It may have just ended, but we can almost guarantee a premiere at next year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Warner Bros. has just dated Ben Affleck‘s upcoming hostage drama Argo for September 14th, 2012. This marks the same time-frame his crime flick The Town hit in 2009, which after a TIFF bow, went on to gross over $150 million worldwide. One can expect a simialir strategy here.

Affleck also stars in the film, which includes Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kerry Bishé, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber, Zeljko Ivanek, Scoot McNairy, Richard Kind, Chris Messina, Michael Parks and Taylor Schilling. Check out a full synopsis below.

Synopsis:

On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Resident Evil: Retribution is the only current competition for Argo, and WB has recently set fall dates for Gangster Squad and Gravity, making their late 2012 quite a promising one.
