Update: Variety reports Dominic Cooper has snagged the role of Henry Sturgess. Sorry Joaquin Phoenix fans.
After his acclaimed role in The Hurt Locker, Anthony Mackie has been relatively quiet as he works on a number of high-profile releases. Last year he released the overlooked Night Catches Us, but has The Adjustment Bureau and Real Steel coming out this year. Deadline now reports another blockbuster he will take part in.
Mackie is in talks to star with lead Benjamin Walker in Timur Bekmambetov‘s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The 20th Century Fox production would pit Mackie as Will, Lincoln’s best friend. The 3D film, based on (and scripted by) Seth Grahame-Smith‘s (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) tells the story of Lincoln’s quest to destroy every vampire, which is supposed to be the real reason behind the Civil War. There has also been rumors that Joaquin Phoenix will join the film as the mentor to Lincoln.
The $69 million production will see a release on June 22nd, 2012.
What do you think of Mackie joining Vampire Hunter?
