With Playboy founder Hugh Hefner just a few years away from hitting 90 years old, it was only a matter of time before someone in Hollywood got around to immortalizing his life with a feature biopic. James Franco will have a small cameo as the adult entertainment pioneer in the indie project Lovelace, but Warner Bros and producer Jerry Weintraub have their sights set on a more expansive look at the man’s life.

THR is reporting that they’ve hired Oscar-nominee Peter Morgan to take script duties on the project. Whether it be The Queen, The Last King of Scotland or the upcoming 360, Morgan has always sided towards more international subjects for his projects. Alongside Frost/Nixon, this will certainly be his most American-centric project yet.

There’s no telling what part of Hefner’s life this would cover, but things are certainly moving forward as Hefner himself tweeted, “I had a good meeting today with screen writer Peter Morgan discussing a film about my life.” With his peculiar lifestyle, I’m glad someone as accomplished and mature as Morgan is taking on the script, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see what he produces.

Who do you think should play Hefner in a biopic?
