Dexter fans rejoice — or recoil depending on your devoted love of the hit serial-killer drama. There is a chance that Michael C. Hall and his Miami Metro Police Department could be making their way to the big screen. However, we don’t want to get anyone too hyped up for this news, as of right now it is “very hypothetical at this point.”

In a recent interview with TV Guide (via CinemaBlend) , the executive producer Manny Coto discussed the possibility of a Dexter movie among other details about the show’s future. He touched based on the shocking season six finale, which led into talks about the character of Dexter. Just recently, Hall signed on to play the serial killer for two more season but according to Coto, the creators haven’t really set up a substantial ending for the series. Here’s a snippet from Coto‘s interview.

“We’re not really looking at an end game right now. In a way, it’s almost like every season is a form of an end game. This season could’ve been an end to Dexter, setting it up for the movies, for example. So every season kind of comes to it’s own conclusion and can be a sort of end game.”

Coto is no stranger to getting big name shows made into movies — he’s currently working on the projected 24 film, which is expected to continue Jack Bauer’s story and provide “more closure to the character than the series did.” As for Dexter, Coto stated that he hasn’t heard anything about the film, but with the 24 film in full swing he can only project or assume that Dexter will see the same big screen future.

However, CinemaBlend does note an interesting fact to why a Dexter feature film could end up troublesome. Dexter is on Showtime, which has allowed them to already delve into R-rater territory. Other than the length appeal, it doesn’t seem all that worth it for a Dexter movie. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Dexter fan, but I fear that making a feature film out of the already successful show would ruin it’s already substantial credibility. Season six definitely delivered in terms of narrative and surprise, which leads me to believe that the creators should just stick to what they know for the next two seasons.
