This summer will see a fair share of big-budget sci-fi films grace the screens, but the end of 2013 will bring one of the biggest, with Orson Scott Card‘s classic sci-fi novel Ender’s Game finally getting adapted. Directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), we’re hesitant of the outcome and still awaiting our first look at footage (which will reportedly land with Star Trek Into Darkness), but today the first poster has arrived.

Featuring Hugo‘s Asa Butterfield this one gives us a peek at the zero-gravity Battle Room, one of the aspects we’re most intrigued to see translate to the screen. Hood recently talked to Yahoo Movies, saying, “This is the high school football field, only it’s in three dimensions. It’s the size of a football field in all directions: up, down, left, right. And the idea is teams jump out from opposite ends of this amazing space and play this amazing game of 3D paintball, almost.” Check it out below for the film also starring Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Moises Arias, Khylin Rhambo, Viola Davis and Nonso Anozie.

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distiguising himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Ender’s Game arrives on November 1st, 2013.
