Now this is a fun battle I can get behind. Two films that show zero promise are going head to head on October 22nd, 2010. Paramount had hired Saw VI director Kevin Greutert to direct the sequel to last year’s insanely profitable Paranormal Activity. Deadline Hollywood reports that Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate have “just exercised a contractual option and installed Saw VI director as director of Saw 3D.” This means Lionsgate has taken back Greutert to direct the upcoming 7th Saw film. This gets rid of David Hackl, director of Saw V, who was supposed to take on Saw 3D. Deadline’s sources say he will be assigned to another project soon.

This rivalry began when Paramount released Paranormal Activity last minute back in October and it went on to make almost $108 million dollars, while Twisted Pictures/Lionsgate’s Saw VI made only $27 million. Considering they aren’t bringing back the original director for Paranormal Activity, I could care less. As for Saw, the films have gotten mindnumbingly worse after the first one. What I found more interesting is if Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli‘s next film, Area 51 can capture the same magic.

What do you think about this rivalry? What film are you most excited for?
