Sofia Coppola‘s (Lost In Translation, Marie Antoinette) next film, Somewhere is about a hard-living Hollywood actor who re-examines his life after his 11-year-old daughter surprises him with a visit. Prefix tells us that the popular French band Phoenix is working on the score/sound design for the film. Here is what frontman of the Grammy-winning group, Thomas Mars had to say:

“It’s very minimal,” said Mars of the new work. “It’s almost like sound design. It wasn’t like writing songs, it was more about trying to make a sound that fits with a Ferrari and the city of Los Angeles’ theme. It was more of an engineer work than a composer.”

I love Phoenix and here at TFS we are pretty excited for Coppola’s new film. Check out an example of their music below.

Somewhere hits late 2010 via Focus Features.

What do you think about Phoenix providing music for the film? Are you looking forward to it?
