For those Trekkie fans hoping for a chance that Spock would return to the alternate timeline of Start Trek 2, looks like you’re about to have your heartbroken. According to a recent Comic Convention appearance in Canada, legendary sci-fi actor and director Leonard Nimoy is stepping down from the business that has rewarded him so well.
“According to the Toronto Sun, Nimoy will be retiring from acting once he finishes up his final appearance as Dr. William Bell in the TV show Fringe. “I’ve been doing this professionally for 60 years. I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I’ve had a great, great time,” Nimoy told the paper. Regarding Star Trek, he notes, “I want to get off the stage. Also, I don’t think it would be fair to Zachary Quinto (who played the younger Spock in J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek reboot). He’s a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it’s time to give him some space. It’s a sad day for sci-fi to know one of its most legendary figures is stepping down from the spotlight. Mr. Nimoy has agreed to make one final public appearance in the town of Vulcan in Southern Alberta, for the unveiling of a bronze Spock bust and imprinting his signature Vulcan salute in a handprint ceremony. “Seems logical to me captain.”
