Late Friday night Fox won out in the studio bidding war for Robert Rodriguez’s independently-produced Machete, the extension of his faux-trailer that sat in between the double feature flop that was Grindhouse [Deadline Hollywood]

Here’s the trailer to refresh ye olde memory:

The reported bid was $9 million. Here are the six studios involved in the bidding: Sony, Lionsgate, Warner Bros, Fox, Paramount, The Weinstein Co. Considering TWC’s current financial troubles, did they really think they could play? Well they could have apparently, as they were given first look and didn’t strike.

Rodriguez’s budget sat around $25 million, ironically the domestic gross of the TWC-produced Grindhouse. Might that experiment’s lack of success caused the company’s hesitance?

Are you excited for Machete? Will you see it in theaters?
