Oh yes. We reported The Incredibles director Brad Bird was being considered to direct the Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams produced Mission: Impossible IV a few weeks ago. Now Vulture has the exclusive that he has all but signed on to take on the feature.

The reason he hasn’t agreed is due to the pay difference. Vulture explains how Bird is used to animation features which take years and therefore the director gets a bigger paycheck. Add in that Bird’s last two films won Oscars and it gets bigger. With Paramount looking to release Mission: Impossible IV on May 27th, 2011 this will be a a very fast production so they want to talk down the price.

Tom Cruise is returning and executive producer J.J. Abrams helped “craft the story” with a screenplay written by Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum. We will keep you updated on MI:4 progress as it occurs.

Are you looking forward to a Bird-directed Mission?
