After crafting “cinema for the post-theatrical era” with the low-budget, partially Kickstarted erotic drama The Canyons (our review), Paul Schrader is getting back to old-fashioned moviemaking with his next effort. There’s been a few different iterations (one notably being Nicolas Winding Refn helming Harrison Ford), but The Dying of the Light is finally coming to fruition under the direction of Schrader and today we have our complete ensemble confirmed.

After Schrader let slip last summer that Nicolas Cage would be leading the project, he’s taken to his Facebook (which is a must-follow for his various thoughts on cinema) to reveal that Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Only Lovers Left Alive), Irène Jacob (The Double Life of Véronique and Three Colors: Red), and Alexander Karim (Zero Dark Thirty) have all come aboard the dark thriller centered on a CIA agent going blind on a final mission.

Shooting begins on January 27th, which lends to our notion that it’ll arrive by the end of the year.

What do you think of the cast? Are you looking forward to the thriller?
