Angelina Jolie is leaving Universal’s Wanted sequel in the dust for Warner Brother’s Gravity, Vulture reports. Instead of recasting the film, the studio has “pulled the plug” on Timur Bekmambetov‘s return to the successful 2008 action flick. She is now in talks to star in “a space thriller to be directed by Children of Men’s Alfonso Cuarón from a script he wrote with his 28-year-old son, Jonás.”

Gravity, which used to be at Universal, is reportedly a “artistically challenging project”. Similar to Sam Rockwell in last year’s Moon, Jolie would be the “sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter.”

Anything with Alfonso Cuarón gets me excited. Children of Men is my favorite film of the past decade and I’ve been waiting for him to announce his next feature for a long time. While I’m not so hot on the idea of Jolie being the sole actor, I’ll take more Cuarón any shape it comes. As for Wanted 2, I’m glad it’s dead. The first one was fun, but it got blown out of proportion in terms of audience reaction.

What do you think of Jolie in a Cuarón space thriller? Are you sad that Wanted 2 is dead?
