It is being reported by The LA Times that Russell Crowe may be in line to star in the remake of the classic musical. Beyonce is also rumored to play the lead female role.
I’m not fully against the idea, but it seems like an odd choice for Russell Crowe to be doing what I can only assume would be some crazy ballads (since the film originates from the 30s). However, Mr. Crowe is not a stranger to that kind of art. He was once a a part of a band when he was younger (you can see a performance he did recently below) and he doesn’t sound half bad, but I’m not sure how his gruff rock/blues sound would translate for the film.
Let it be known that this is one of the few musicals that I have not seen in it’s entirety, but I’d assume that the lead male does have some songs to sing. See below a performance by Crowe.
