From Da Ali G Show to Flight of the Conchords to last year’s The Muppets to a potential spy movie, director James Bobin appears to never get involved with projects unless they’re all but guaranteed to be great. Keep this track record in mind for what may be his next non-Muppets feature film, as sources tell TheWrap that Bobin has signed to helm Tribyville, a period piece musical that Disney is currently looking to acquire from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay‘s Gary Sanchez Productions. Here’s the part where you groan and hate me: outside of the title, the “period piece” nugget, and the fact that Bobin also wrote the screenplay, there is no additional information on Tribyville. Nada. Zilch. Zero. Other words that mean “nothing.”
But, like I said before, Bobin‘s excellent track record with comedies — both normal and music-tinged — is impeccable, so, even though information on Tribyville is locked up in a vault surrounded by guards, I’m already preemptively ready to accept whatever he has to offer. There’s really no reason to think otherwise at this point… unless The Muppets 2 ends up being the worst thing ever, but I doubt that’s going to happen. Even if the choice of a lead is somewhat off-putting to some. At least Christoph Waltz may still be showing up, despite not nabbing a major role.
