Sometimes things aren’t special enough. Take the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, for example. Sure, it happens but once a year, has major network coverage, takes a full year to coordinate and execute and is a destination for families all around the country. That’s all well and good, with the giant balloons of copy-written characters and the like, but wouldn’t it be more special after you watch a fictional narrative film based around the parade?
IAM Entertainment is banking on it. THR’s Heat Vision reports that the production company, responsible for the film Hurricane Season, has teamed up with the famous department store to make a film out of their famous parade. Ideas are still being bandied about, but after the success of the The Night At The Museum franchise (and to some extent, the Toy Story films) one has to assume that the giant inflatable creatures will come to life and go on some sort of whimsical romp.
The most obvious idea has the Garfield float coming to life and taking over the city of New York, enslaving its denizens who can only appease their giant overlord by creating giant portions of lasagna for him. Otherwise they are for dinner. But apparently producer Scott Glassgold has other ideas:
“We’re aiming to make a four-quadrant, family-friendly film somewhere in that Night At The Museum, Elf sweet spot.”
So gather the kids and get them ready for what everyone involved surely hopes is a feel-good winter tent-pole franchise starter.
