Last night, we reported Tom Hanks entered talks to join The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow‘s next feature. Previously known as Triple Frontier, the new title Sleeping Dogs hasn’t been confirmed but was also reported yesterday.

Now, Deadline has the scoop that the Oscar-winning director is looking to get Johnny Depp to star in the ensemble drama as well. The film features five major roles and is “set in the organized crime haven that exists in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.” There are two distinct “major leads” out of the five in Mark Boal‘s script.

Right now Depp “likes the role” and wants to team with Hanks, but in the next two weeks he will have to figure out his busy schedule. Bigelow is prepping a February shoot for Paramount and Depp is also scheduled to start Dark Shadows for Warner Bros at that time, which his company is producing. I hope it can work out, as this would be an amazing pairing. Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Sean Penn and Jeremy Renner have also been interested in the project.

What do you think of Depp and Hanks together? Who would you like to see join them?
