So much for Nicole Kidman putting her career back on track. The first image from her upcoming film with Nicolas Cage seems to ensure she’ll have another box office disaster on her hands. [EW]

Directed by schlockmeister (and batsuit nipple enthusiast) Joel Schumacher, Trespass revolves around a couple who must deal with issues of trust and betrayal in their marriage while being held for ransom in their Louisiana home. The thriller also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Dash Mihok, Liana Liberator, Cam Gigandet and Jordana Spiro.

The pairing of Cage and Schumacher (who worked together previously on 8MM) almost ensures this film will be flat-out ridiculous. Kidman, although sometimes a great actress, is becoming more known for ill-fated box office bombs (The Invasion) and thus her inclusion doesn’t quite add the gravitas to make me believe this will rise above the generic thriller genre. All three, however, can manage greatness and perhaps they’ll strike gold here but I wouldn’t count on it.

With that said, Kidman’s most promising movie in years comes out this December, Rabbit Hole. Check out Jordan’s TIFF review here.

Trespass will hit theaters in 2011.

Do you think Trespass will turn out to be an engaging adult thriller or a campy disaster?
