As a devoted fan of the dearly departed Starz sitcom Party Down, I’ve been following Adam Scott’s films with the kind of rapt attention most often put to engineering Swiss watches. So, I could not be happier that he’s signed onto co-star in Jennifer Westfeldt’s upcoming directorial debut Friends With Kids. [Playlist]

Westfeldt is best known for co-writing Kissing Jessica Stein, the quirky “maybe I’m gay” play-turned-indie rom-com from 2001. Her next effort was the stilted therapy-laden rom-com Ira & Abby, but hopefully Westfeldt’s take on parenthood will be more amusing than her take on marriage.

Plot details for Friends With Kids are scarce, but rounding out the cast is the oft-awesome Kristen Wiig of SNL, the ever-charmingly befuddled Westfeldt herself, and her long-term beau, Mad Men’s Jon Hamm. So really, who cares about the plot when you have a cast like this?

Friends With Kids will begin shooting in New York City next month.
