After crafting a few impressive shorts and getting close to making his first feature a number of times, Ruairi Robinson finally got to debut his first film at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year with Last Days on Mars. The Oscar-nominated director’s story finds Liev Schreiber leading a group of astronaut explorers who succumb one by one to a mysterious and terrifying force while collecting specimens on Mars.

We actually saw the film there and weren’t fans, saying it’s a “mish-mash of bad clichés.” The first trailer has now arrive out of the U.K., which reveals some of our story,  based on Sydney J. Bounds’ short story The Animators. I actually like some of the imagery contained in this one-minute tease and would be interested in seeking it out when it lands likely next year. Check it out below for the film also starring Olivia Williams, Elias Koteas, Romola Garai and Johnny Harris.

Update: Check out the U.S. poster and trailer below.

Last Days on Mars hits theaters on December 6th and VOD on October 31st.

What do you think of the first trailer?
