Every winter Hollywood offers up a handful of family films in an attempt to lure audiences during the competitive period. This year, the offerings range from promising fare like Life of Pi and even The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to…Parental Guidance. We’ve now got a new trailer for the latter today following up an initial look and while I appreciate seeing Billy Crystal and Bette Midler back in the game, the material looks about as generic as it gets.

Directed by Race to Witch Mountain and The Game Plan helmer Andy Fickman, it also includes an obligatory celebrity cameo with Tony Hawk (we urge you to check out his recent documentary instead). Check out the new trailer below for the film also starring Marisa Tomei, Bailee Madison, Mavrick Moreno, Madison Lintz, Joshua Rush and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf.

Synopsis:

Old school grandfather Artie, who is accustomed to calling the shots, meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife Diane agree to babysit their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane’s old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it’s learning to bend – and not holding your ground – that binds a family together.

Parental Guidance hits theaters Christmas Day.
