Unless you are Baz Luhrmann, chances are your adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s classic Romeo and Juliet won’t be something wildly out of the box and that looks to be the case with Carlo Carlei‘s take. Scripted by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, we got an early trailer but now a theatrical version has arrived, starting off strong with the voice of Stellan Skarsgaard.

As we’ve mentioned, this take, featuring True Grit‘s Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth, doesn’t seem to be treading any new ground, but when today’s love stories pass for Twilight and the ilk, it’s nice to see some tried and true material up on the screen. Now set for an October 11th release, check out the new trailer (via MTV) and poster below for the film also starring Damian Lewis, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ed Westwick and Paul Giamatti.

Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare’s epic and searing tale of love, is revitalized on screen by writer Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) and director Carlos Carlei (The Flight of the Innocent). An ageless story from the world’s most renowned author is reimagined for the 21st Century. This adaptation is told in the lush traditional setting it was written, but gives a new generation the chance to fall in love with the enduring legend. With an all-star cast including Hailee Steinfeld, Douglas Booth, Paul Giamatti and Stellan Skarsgaard, it affords those unfamiliar with the tale the chance to put faces to the two names they’ve undoubtedly heard innumerable times: Romeo and Juliet. Every generation deserves to discover this lasting love.
