‘The World’s End’ Teaser – Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost Finish the Cornetto

Written by on May 8, 2013

Although the wait is not yet over, we’re right on our way: six years after Hot Fuzz and nearly a decade following Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have concluded their Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy with, appropriately titled, The World’s End.

A much-anticipated reunion is exactly the order of the day, and what’s here largely resembles the film yours truly had come to envision: a cross between the high-concept genre bending of Shaun and localized rituals of comedy that made for a strong undercurrent in Fuzz. (Consider a third go-round with the unsuccessful-jump-over-fence gag the tie that binds.) Enjoy with the full knowledge that much, much more awaits — but, for the time being, this Cornetto has the flavor we’ve come to love.

Watch the trailer below.

Synopsis:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Also starring Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan, and Rosamund Pike, The World’s End will open in the U.K. on July 19, followed by a U.S. release on August 23.

How is it to see Wright, Pegg, and Frost back to work?
