‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Teaser

Written by on November 10, 2011

Snow White and the Huntsman‘s dark and gritty approach — indicated in promotional materials — gave me a prematurely sour disposition. Add in the fact that it’s one of two films based on the tale hitting theaters in the first half of next year, and I just tuned everything out. (The other is Tarsem‘s Mirror, Mirror, which opens about three months prior to this.)

Color me surprised when I watched the teaser for Rupert Sanders‘ film, which has managed to raise my interest from 3% to… something a little higher. The first impression gleaned from the footage is the scale; some were claiming it would be on the same level as Lord of the Rings, but we hear that all the time, before it ends up being more in line with Narnia. Though Peter Jackson‘s epic trilogy can probably rest easy, it does feel like it actually cost a thing or two — more than I can say for Tarsem‘s version right now. I’m still not fully convinced — I really need to see more of Kristen Stewart, an actress I never particularly cared for — although Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth look like they’re having some fun, even if the latter is still fully immersed in Thor mode. But I’m suddenly a little intrigued; this teaser’s done its job.

Also starring Sam Claflin, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, Stephen Graham, Nick Frost, Ian McShane, Noah Huntley, and Lily Cole, Snow White and the Huntsman will open on June 1st, 2012.

What do you think of this first teaser? Does it change your expectations at all?
