Second Teaser For Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Dogtooth’ Follow-Up ‘Alps’

Written by on October 17, 2011

After delivering one of my favorites films of last year with Dogtooth, I was heavily anticipating Yorgos Lanthimos‘ follow-up Alps at Toronto this year. While his odd storytelling and dark themes were still there, the drama was one of my disappointments of the festival (review here). The sharp satire is gone and the humor is heavily toned down. For fans of Dogtooth, I’d still recommend seeking it out as there are a few smart ideas at play, but don’t expect a similar experience. After a first teaser, a new poster and trailer have made their way online from AUEB Film Club/The Match Factory via The Playlist, and can be seen below.

Synopsis:

A Nurse, a Paramedic, a Gymnast and her Coach have formed a service for hire. They stand in for dead people by appointment, hired by the relatives, friends, or colleagues of the deceased. The company is called Alps while their leader, the Paramedic, calls himself Mont Blanc.
Although the Alps members operate under a discipline regime demanded by their leader, the Nurse doesn’t… From the director of the Oscar-nominated DOGTOOTH.

Alps was just picked up by Kino Lorber for a spring 2012 release.

What do you think of the new teaser? Do you think it will live up to Dogtooth?
