life-itself

After mostly focusing on animation, scripting Tangled, Bolt, Cars, and more, Dan Fogelman jumped into live-action with Crazy, Stupid, Love., and then soon followed with his directorial debut Danny Collins, a good-natured, affable showcase for Al Pacino. He’s now returning this fall with Life Itself–no relation to Roger Ebert–starring Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, Annette Bening and Antonio Banderas.

Following a trailer debut on This is Us, Fogelman’s hit show, Amazon Studios has released the preview online. The story follows multiple generations and feels a bit like a more conventional version of Cloud Atlas with a heart-on-its-sleeve, wide-reaching scope. Still, Fogelman has proved that he can take on schmaltz with a certain charm, so hopefully that’s the case here. See the preview below.

Life Itself opens on September 21.
