Everybody Wants Some 6

It is safe to say we either liked or, at the very least, are excited for Richard Linklater‘s Everybody Wants Some!!, a film apparently worthy of its much-hyped status as a Dazed & Confused spiritual sequel. After what feels like quite some period of build-up with developments, trailers, and premieres, it’s finally begun a theatrical roll-out that, as Paramount is plenty happy to show you, will be expanding in the coming weeks.

As that begins, they’ve released a new, brief trailer, set of clips, and B-roll (!!), while a 21-minute interview with Linklater has been posted by CBC’s q. If you, like me, will avoid those and instead experience the film more “whole” — which is to say if you, like I, consider the avoidance of such things part of a “whole” experience — but still want a bit, check out our review. As we said, “Linklater finds a joyful freedom in these men who refuse to discriminate. They’re happy to play dress-up daily, moving from discotheques to honky tonk bars to hardcore shows without worrying that they’re compromising some form of authenticity. And even if it’s only to pick up girls, Everybody Wants Some!! gleams with a sense of possibility that most films about college attempt to emulate through spectacle rather than taking the time to get to know its own characters.”

Synopsis:

Set in the world of 1980s college life, this film follows a freshman’s first weekend of college, experiencing a fraternity-like lifestyle with his hard-partying teammates as they navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood.
