Lars von Trier stirred up some controversy at Cannes Film Festival this year, unfortunately overshadowing the utterly excellent film he brought with him. We called latest from the “expert of manipulation,” “a powerful statement on the futility of our lives as we try to escape our own inevitable fate.” Our lead Kirsten Dunst even picked up a Best Actress award at Cannes for her performance.

After a longer initial trailer, we have this shorter UK teaser and it hints at the looming disaster without revealing much of anything. Check it out below via DigitalSpy for the film starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgard, Stellan Skarsgard and Udo Kier.

Synopsis:

Meanwhile, a planet called Melancholia is heading directly towards Earth… Melancholia is a psychological disaster film from director Lars von Trier.
