Oscillating from major-budget fare (The Martian, Zoolander 2, Ghostbusters) to independent projects (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Welcome to Me, The Skeleton Twins), as of late Kristin Wiig has both sides of the spectrum covered. Her new drama, Nasty Baby, will see her far on the latter side and today brings the first trailer.

Premiering at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the drama comes from Sebastián Silva (Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus, Magic Magic) and follows a gay couple who try to have a baby with the help of their best friend, Polly. The trio navigates the idea of creating life while confronted by unexpected harassment from a neighborhood man called The Bishop. As their clashes grow increasingly aggressive, odds are someone is getting hurt.

We said in our review, “The first two acts manage to balance all these plot lines with a clear focus to this improvised picture. The film never runs in circles or gets lost in ad-libbing. Silva creates a loose, authentic and warm vibe with immensely charming performances. Nasty Baby features Wiig’s most natural and relaxed performance to date, and Silva and Adebimpe match her authentic screen presence. The love Freddy has for Bo and Polly rings loud and clear, and for good reason — these relationships are completely believable.”

Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Sebastian Silva, Tunde Adebimpe, Reg E. Cathey, Mark Margolis, and Denis O’Hare.

Nasty Baby opens on October 23rd.
