Growing up, legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa adored the films of Hollywood’s iconic western helmer John Ford. While we can see such an influence in his extensive filmography, the favor was indeed returned. Not only have Kurosawa’s films been an influence for many Hollywood projects, but most notably his masterpiece Seven Samurai was given a direct remake with The Magnificent Seven — so, what does all this have to do with The Lone Ranger?

Disney is prepping a global release of their blockbuster this summer and we’ve got a new international trailer for the film hailing for Japan. Perhaps its simply the voiceover, or the talk of ideals of what it means to be a honorable man, but if this one wasn’t already based on a radio serials, we’d imagine it wouldn’t be far removed from a Kurosawa remake — at least by the big-budget Hollywood standards of today. While in no way, shape or form do we think this one will match up with such lofty heights, with its sweeping new action bits, a man can dream.

Check out the new trailer for Gore Verbinski’s film below, starring Johnny DeppArmie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter.
