One can see Jamie Bell getting proper filthy in Nymphomaniac: Volume II, which just hit streaming, but later this spring he’s taking part in another devious production, one that already unspooled in the UK. Coming from Irvine Welsh, author of Trainspotting, Filth is led by James McAvoy as a corrupt policeman. Judging from this debut U.S. red band trailer, it looks to be one of the actor’s best performances, or at least most extreme.

Directed by Jon S. Baird, who helmed Cass and was a producer on Green Street Hooligans, the film will come to the US first on VOD on April 24th, followed by a limited theater run on May 30th. Check out the trailer and new theatrical poster below for the film also starring Imogen Poots, Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Joanne Froggatt, Emun Elliott, Martin Compston and Kate Dickie.

Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

What do you think of the trailer? Did you already see it the film internationally?
