We got a wonderful teaser for Focus Features and the Laika’s upcoming animation ParaNorman earlier this fall, but a new international one has arrived that lets loose more of the plot. From the team behind Coraline, the film is directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler (also writer here), who have worked on Corpse Bride, The Tale of Despereaux and Flushed Away. The voice cast includes Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin and John Goodman.

We learn that our lead can see the dead, Sixth Sense-style, but pretty soon his visions are brought to life for the entire town to see. The trailer can been seen via MSN, while Wired also has an interview with the filmmakers off this “keenly felt coming-of-age story, with zombies.” The lead animator and president/CEO of
Laika, Travis Knight said the new above image “is evocative of the tone of the film,” while co-director Chris Butler said the exact tone is “John
Carpenter meets John Hughes.” Check out that trailer below.

Synopsis:

When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

ParaNorman hits theaters August 17th, 2012.
