After successfully raising nearly $1.5 million on Kickstarter, Spike Lee’s latest feature premiered earlier this year and it’s now ready to debut just in time for Valentine’s Day. Pulling from Bill Gunn‘s Ganja & HessDa Sweet Blood of Jesus isn’t exactly about vampires, but does feature human beings who are addicted to blood, and today the first trailer has arrived.

We said in our review, the film is Spike Lee’s “freest-feeling endeavor in a spell, the full-forced reminder that, after years divided by safe hits (Inside Man and, yes, Oldboy) and personal duds (Miracle at St. Anna, the aforementioned Red Hook Summer), he’s yet to lose sight of how both the personal and the lively might flow together.” Starring Stephen Tyrone Williams, Zaraah Abrahams, Rami Malek, Elvis Nolasco, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Joie Lee, Felicia “Snoop” Pearson, and Jeni Perillo, check out the trailer below.

Spike Lee’s new stylized thriller DA SWEET BLOOD OF JESUS is a new kind of love story. Dr. Hess Green (Stephen Tyrone Williams) becomes cursed by a mysterious ancient Afrian artifact and is overwhelmed with a newfound thirst for blood. He however is not a vampire. Soon after his transformation he enters into a dangerous romance with Ganja Hightower (Zaraah Abrahams) that questions the very nature of love, addiction, sex, and status in our seemingly sophisticated society.

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus opens in theaters and VOD on February 13th.
